Apple’s online store now offers a new accessory for the Vision Pro: a top strap for the Solo Knit Band, designed by Belkin.
The Vision Pro comes with two head strap options. The default Solo Knit Band, made from a 3D-knitted fabric, provides soft and comfortable support at the back of the head but lacks a top strap to distribute the headset’s weight evenly. The optional Dual Loop Band, which includes a top strap, features a thinner, less padded back strap that some users find less comfortable.
Belkin’s new $50 top strap aims to bridge this gap, offering a side-to-side strap compatible with the Solo Knit Band, creating a more balanced fit without sacrificing comfort.
Interestingly, Apple originally showcased the Vision Pro with a top strap for the Solo Knit Band during its WWDC 2023 presentation and even filed a patent for the design. The strap appeared briefly in Apple’s promotional video for Vision Pro, but it wasn’t included in the final release.
This raises questions about why Apple chose not to produce the accessory itself. As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes, when Apple identifies a necessary accessory but opts not to make it under its brand, it often collaborates with Belkin, a company owned by a Foxconn subsidiary.
